Getting Paid
Last updated: June 2026
When you sell items on Flip It Exchange using nationwide shipping, you get paid through the platform. Your earnings are automatically split according to the contribution structure you set at listing time (minimum 5% to our community partner, another minimum 5% to your chosen organization, and up to 90% to you as the seller).
Payment Split Structure
Every sale on Flip It Exchange is automatically divided as follows:
- Minimum 5% to our community partner
- Minimum 5% to your chosen organization
- Up to 90% to you, the seller
You can choose to contribute more than the minimum 5% to organizations when listing your item. The split percentages are locked in at the time of listing and cannot be changed afterward.
Stripe Processing & Payout Fees
Stripe's payment processing and payout fees are deducted directly from your Stripe balance when funds are transferred to your bank account or debit card. Flip It Exchange does not cover or absorb these fees. The exact amount depends on your chosen payout method (standard bank transfer vs. instant debit card payout) and Stripe's published fee schedule. The net amount deposited to your account will reflect these deductions.
Potential Deductions from Your Payout
The following amounts may be deducted from your payout if applicable:
- Shipping Shortage: If the actual shipping cost exceeds what was collected at checkout due to incorrect package dimensions you provided, the difference will be deducted from your next payout. Always provide accurate dimensions and weight when listing items.
- Chargeback Fee ($17.00): If a buyer disputes a charge through their bank and Stripe charges a dispute fee, $17.00 will be deducted from your payout. This applies when the dispute is related to your item. If the dispute is won in your favor, the fee is refunded and the deduction is reversed.
All deductions are reviewed by Flip It Exchange administrators before being applied. You can view any pending or applied adjustments in your Seller Dashboard.
When You Get Paid
Your payout timing depends on the fulfillment method:
- Shipped items: Your portion of the payment is held securely by Stripe until the buyer confirms receipt and item condition. After buyer confirmation (or 48 hours after delivery if no issue is reported), your payout is processed to your connected bank account or debit card.
- Local pickup: Once both buyer and seller confirm the pickup and the buyer confirms item condition, your payout is released.
Important
Buyers have a 48-hour verification window after delivery to confirm item condition. If they don't respond within this window, funds are automatically released to you. We do not hold seller funds indefinitely due to buyer inactivity.
Payment Security
All payments on Flip It Exchange are processed through Stripe, our secure payment processing partner. This ensures:
- Your financial information is never stored on Flip It Exchange servers
- All transactions are encrypted and PCI-compliant
- Both buyers and sellers are protected through our verification system
- Funds are held securely until the transaction is completed satisfactorily
Setting Up Your Deposit Account
To receive your earnings, you must connect a bank account or debit card through Stripe Connect. You have 90 days from your first sale to complete this setup. To learn more, see Set up a deposit account.
Tip: Adding a debit card gives you faster payouts at no additional cost.
Tracking Your Earnings
You can view all your sales, earnings, and payout history in the Seller Dashboard. Each order shows:
- The total sale amount
- How much went to each organization
- The platform fee
- Your net earnings
- Payout status (pending, processing, or sent)
Tax Reporting
If your total gross sales exceed the IRS reporting threshold ($20,000 and 200 transactions federally, or lower thresholds in some states), you will receive a Form 1099-K from Stripe. To learn more, see Form 1099-K and tax reporting.
Important Reminders
- All payments are paused until you provide required identity verification information to Stripe
- You must maintain a valid bank account or debit card on file to receive payouts
- Refunds or disputes may delay or reduce your payout amount
- You are responsible for reporting your income to tax authorities
